Who Has Time for Lien Rights? The Top 5 Things zlien Users Say They’d Rather Be Doing With Their Time

We talk to people in the construction business every day here at zlien – people just like you. We talk about lien rights, yes, but we also talk other things, like the companies they work for, their jobs, even their bosses. We’re also very lucky in that we’re able to get to know our customers very well personally, and they often share with us stories about some of the things that are important to them outside of work, like family, friends, hobbies, and all of the things they like to do when they’re away from their jobs.

We all know that managing lien rights is confusing and complicated. And when a task – any task, is as challenging and as important as lien rights, doing it correctly requires one thing more than any other: time.

Time Is Not on Your Side

And so the correct answer to the question posed in the article title above is: no one!

Hardly anyone in the construction business has time to manage lien rights, and yet, construction businesses still need to get paid, and that means that someone still needs to be in charge of lien rights management which is the most effective tool available for a construction business to secure their payments. And so, even though no one has time for it, someone at your company is forced to muddle their way through the lien rights management process as best they can.

And if you’re reading this, chances are that someone is you.

Even though lien rights management is what you spend a significant, or even most, of your time on, I am about 99% sure that your title is not “lien rights manager.”

No, that job title doesn’t exist in the construction industry (or any industry, really). Instead, you’re title is probably something like  “Accountant,” or “Office Manager.”

And another thing that I’m about 99% positive of is that, you probably have to manage lien rights in addition to all of the other responsibilities that you have at work. It’s almost not fair, really, but we hear these stories each and every day.

From time to time, our customers tell us about all of the things that they plan on doing – or already are doing – with all of the extra time they have at work since they’ve outsourced their lien rights management to zlien. Read on to hear some of their – of your – stories.

Here are our top 5 favorite answers:

Do the job I was actually hired to do

We hear this all the time. As we already stated above, “lien rights managers” don’t generally exist in the construction industry. But accountants and office managers do, and they’re the ones that end up taking on the overwhelming task.

When we first get to know an accountant or office manager that’s also managing lien rights, they’re often some of the most frustrated people we talk to. And after they’re up and running with zlien, they often turn out to be some of our happiest users.

When a company outsources their lien rights management to zlien, these folks finally get to focus their time and energy on the real job that they were hired to do in the first place. And that makes them happy. And when they tell us how happy we’ve made them, that makes us happy.

Spend more time in the field

The people that share this sentiment with us most often tend to be small business owners. You see, many of them got into construction in the first place because they love building things and they love being in the field. And so they get frustrated when an important task, especially one that’s as challenging as lien rights, pulls them away from the field and chains them to a desk.

Spend more time at the soccer field

Take it from us: it feels pretty good when a customer tells you that, because they’re now using your product at their office, they finally have time to go see their kid’s soccer game, play, or just spend some quality time with their kids, grandkids, or other family members.

There’s a couple of traits common to people in the construction business that really stick out to us here at zlien: 1) they work really hard, and, 2) family is important.

Nothing makes us happier at zlien when we find out that we’ve helped one of our customers with both.

Finally make it to happy hour / the beach

This lucky customer of ours in Southern California clearly has her priorities in order. She’s not joking, and neither are we!

In her case, she was having to stay late at the office almost every day to manage her company’s lien rights, after she had done all of the other work she had to do. Outsourcing their  lien rights management allowed her to finally get out of the office on time.

Some folks spend that extra time with their families, others may go to the gym. She likes to spend her free time after work with friends at happy hour or at the beach. And who are we to judge – it sounds pretty awesome to us!

Fishing

Hey, ‘nuff said – we get it. Who wouldn’t want to go fishing after work instead of staying late to manage lien rights? Not us! In fact, can we come with you?
