Postage Prices Set To Rise

Here at zlien we monitor such things as postage rates because they are very important to our clients and our business. The United States Postal Service (USPS) typically raises rates to keep up with the inflation rate. In a recent bold move, the struggling USPS is seeking approval to raise the base rate of a standard letter from $0.46 to $0.49.

Although this $0.03 rate hike will seem insignificant to most, it greatly affects the notice and lien industry. Large and even small contractors have to send out notices in many states on every job. This rate hike will eat into a previously thin bottom line. Using a service like zlien eliminates the burden of using the proper amounts for postage. We build postage into our flat-rate pricing. Many of our competitors, charge a base price plus postage.

This gives zlien customers a clear advantage.

The USPS says that this current rate increase is different than all others and its being proposed in an effort to ease the financial condition of the service. The USPS has fallen on hard times over the past few years and is looking to make changes to save the service.

Legislatures all over the country have made the USPS the standard when sending notices and liens. Compliance written into many statutes requires usage of the USPS. Otherwise the notice or the lien may be invalidated if not sent in a particular manner.

The final details on the rate increase will be revealed in the coming months.
