Hands down, this is probably one of the best and most comprehensive “how-to” guides I’ve put together. This one is published on Google’s Knol (which I used a bit sometime last year, but largely forgot about).

This how-to guide is titled “How To File A Mechanic’s Lien in California.”  Not only do I give step-by-step instructions on how to prepare the lien form, serve it and file it…but I also provide you with the forms to get the job done.  Plus, the Knol article addresses who is qualified to file a lien (and who isn’t), and even the preliminary notice requirements for California subcontractors and suppliers.

This guide is great and will help you file your mechanic’s lien on your own.  But, it won’t change the fact that filing liens are really complex.  With that said, remember that zlien can file your California Mechanics Lien.
