Key articles from across the web on a variety of construction industry topics
zlien Participates at BillTrust Connect 2017 in Orlando
zlien hit the road this past week, bringing our message of Fair Payment for the construction industry to the Billtrust Connect 2017 Conference in Orlando. One of the conference highlights for the zlien crew was the talk given by Alison Levine. Those of us back at zlien‘s world headquarters in New Orleans are hoping that our traveling peers are bringing us back some nice, Orlando gifts. Maybe a t-shirt or something…
At the conference, zlien‘s Director of Business Development, Coy Henderson, took the opportunity to show off his own construction skills (right). Luckily for zlien, Coy is much better at business development than he is at giant Jenga…
Upcoming zlien Events:
We’re participating at the CFMA’s Annual Conference and Exhibition this June in Phoenix. If you’re attending, please come say hello!
Price of Lumber Is Not in a Slumber
A few stories about the rising cost of lumber caught our eye this week. Seems that the forthcoming trade policies from the Trump Administration may end up having a bigly impact on the prices of materials used in the construction industry. Here are a few links to get you up to speed:

- Heads Up! AIA Releases 2017 Contract Documents
via the zlien Blog
Really, AIA? “Announcement of the Decade?” Seems a bit much, doesn’t it? The once-a-decade release of the AIA’s industry standard contract documents certainly counts as big news, but the biggest news of this (or any) decade? Still, extremely important announcement that will have a major, once-in-a-decade impact on the industry. Click the image below to download samples of the newly revised, 2017 contract documents.

Do Robot Construction Workers Need Safety Meetings?
- Robots Take a Hammer to Homebuilding’s Labor Crunch
via Investor’s Business Daily
First, we read that the majority of young adults are not interested in construction trades. While there is some concensus around the numbers, explanations for the lack of interest vary, and the impact of the resulting labor shortage is particularly acute in some metro areas, such as Dallas. Then, we read that immigrants have flooded the construction industry in California, causing work pay to sink drastically. And then, we read that construction jobs are now going to robots. It’s possible that all of these stories are true, though it does make it hard to get a good read on the construction labor market.
